Taking the first step towards healing and self-discovery is a powerful act. It takes courage to seek support, and I am honored to join you on your transformative journey.

Welcome! I’m Amy Gómez, a dedicated and compassionate therapist intern and graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University.

I entered this field with clinical interests in helping others navigate through anxiety, depression, life shifts, relationships, dating, sexuality, gender, and trauma. I am a strong advocate for fostering a sex-positive atmosphere. Sexuality is a fundamental aspect of human identity, woven into our innate social and sexual nature. Often, sexual concerns remain unspoken in therapy due to feelings of shame or discomfort, remaining shrouded in mystery which unfortunately lacks open and healthy conversations. I want to disrupt the sexual status quo and champion a culture where sex and intimacy are fun, meaningful, and pleasurable. By dismantling the unhealthy societal narratives around sexuality, this can lead to a transformative shift in how we perceive ourselves and our relationship with sex.

My approach is warm, empathetic, and client-centered, providing a safe space for you to explore and work through your concerns. I work eclectically, bringing a unique blend of Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques to guide individuals toward empowerment and transformative change.

Clinical internship is a required and necessary part of the counselor training process. During my internship at Peak Couples and Sex Therapy, my clinical supervisior, Jennifer Keilholtz (PRC200001615), and I will meet weekly to explore the issues my clients face, my clinical perceptions, and treatment planning to ensure the highest level of supportive, evidence-based care. I am also supported by weekly supervision sessions with a Northwestern professor.
