My goal is to offer a sex-positive, trauma-informed therapy space.
what is one book that has really influenced your work as a couples & Sex Therapist?
Both Why Love Hurts: A Sociological Explanation by Eva Illouz and Mating in Captivity by Esther Perel have completely shifted how I conceptualize my work by placing shifts in modern dating and notions of love in a broader cultural context.
How would your clients describe you?
Non-judgmental and compassionate mixed with humor and directness. They would tell you I am passionate about prioritizing what they hope to get from each session and providing resources to continue our work on their own between sessions.
when you’re not at your therapy desk, what can we find you doing?
When I’m not at my therapy desk, you will find me taking a Pilates class, enjoying live music (most likely Mt. Joy), or reading a book!
Madison’s Full Biography
I specialize in working with adult individuals and couples struggling with a range of sexual concerns and issues including but not limited to desire discrepancies, infidelity, out-of-control sexual behaviors, erectile dysfunction, genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder, and healing from sexual trauma. Additionally, I enjoy working with alternative sexuality such as kink, BDSM, polyamory, and ethical non-monogamy. I am Level 1 trained in Gottman Couples Method Therapy and am currently working towards AASECT certification under the supervision of certified sex therapist Tamara Pincus, LCSW.
I am also passionate about working with attachment issues and complex-PTSD. I primarily work from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) perspective and utilize mind-body interventions to help clients get unstuck and develop self-compassion for the thoughts and behaviors that leave them feeling shame, disassociated, and out of control. I find nothing more rewarding than witnessing clients access self-trust and reconnect with the idea that they are already whole.
My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in Sociology from George Mason University, and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. My training allows me to approach sex therapy with a comprehensive, holistic understanding of the individual, relational dynamics, and sociocultural influences. I hope to foster a sex-positive, trauma-informed therapy space that is free of judgment.
